sciecelab.com - BEWARE!

Postby Beep! Beep! » Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:14 pm

Hi,

Last year I ordered some chemicals from sciencelab.com.

They sent me an email saying that some items were back ordered. Did not say which items in particular. I waited several months, I trusted them, who would think that a chemical supplier would scam you!

After a while I wrote and asked which items were back ordered, and it was the most expensive part of the order, that included a solvent and a complex compound. At that point I asked that they cancel the back ordered products, and only sent the cheap stuff. I expected a refund.

I received some visibly degraded chemicals in a totally inapproprite bottle. It should have been shielded from light in an amber bottle, it was not. It was in really cheap, thin-walled bottles, 500mL in 1L bottles, so the bottles were half-full. This is normally a clear liquid. To be this deep amber, it must have been 40 years old, I have never seen it in that condition.

They do not answer phones or reply to emails and will not refund me the money they owe me.

Watch out...

They got me, because it is now too late to reverse the credit card charges, and because I received a partial order it is no longer, legally, outright fraud, but a minor consumer issue.

I've never done business with them, and based on your experience I certainly won't bother.

Why is it too late to dispute the charges? Contact your credit card company and tell them that the company failed to deliver what they were supposed to.

Six weeks ago I ordered several items from Sciencelab.com. I did not receive any confirmation email or any other correspondence. Finally, I phoned them and they told me that the more expensive items I had ordered were on backorder. So, I asked them to cancel those items and just send me the Florence flasks I had ordered. I ended up receiving three Erlenmeyer flasks instead. I won't go near them again.

I agree that there's nothing worse than sending your credit card info into the void and hoping for the best. I had a similarly-poor stress-inducing experience with Elemental Scientific. On the other hand, I have had 100% success and professionalism with a half-dozen orders or so from makershed.com and HomeScienceTools.com. If I can't buy the necessary equipment and chemicals from those two vendors, I change my experiment to match what they do have!

Elemental scientific has gotten a lot better since they added a shop online feature. Their orders come a little faster and their prices are still the cheapest around (For example united nuclear sell sodium metal for around $40+Hazard fee an ounce while elemental scientific sell sodium in the same quantity for $10+Hazard fee). Unfortunately, it still takes up to 3 weeks to recive an order. Usaly, the order will only take 3 weeks if you order a strange compound. My opinion is to use elementalscientific if im not in a hurry if i need somthing but i will order elsewhere if i need somthing right away
